Bluefield State College President Robin Capehart’s “State of the College” address today provided BSC students, employees, the College’s Board of Governors, members of campus leadership, alumni, benefactors and B-State supporters with a summary of the institution’s achievements, aspirations, and challenges.

BSC and PCH sign MOU

Princeton Community Hospital and Bluefield State College have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that affirms their commitment to explore opportunities for repurposing the Princeton Community Hospital/BRMC facilities.  The collaboration would create the opportunity for BSC to utilize current excess capacity at the former Bluefield Regional Medical Center facility to provide educational training for high demand health care professionals.  PCH Chief Executive Officer Jeff Lilley and BSC President Robin Capehart signed the MOU during a news conference and agreement signing ceremony at PCH/BRMC on Tuesday.

BSC COVID-19 Test Results Announced

Bluefield State College has received COVID-19 test results from 794 individuals (664 people who tested on campus on August 10 and 130 people who submitted their test results, individually, to the BSC Health Center). Of that number, six have tested positive for the virus.  That represents 0.75 percent (three-fourths of one percent). “Each person testing positive has been contacted by the Bluefield State College Health Center,” noted Dr. Ted Lewis, BSC Provost.  “They have been instructed to self-quarantine for at least 14 days.  If they are exhibiting no COVID-19 symptoms after that period, they can be re-tested.  If that test yields a negative result, they can return to campus.”

Bluefield State Returns Football And 11 Additional Sports For 2021-2022

Bluefield State College announced today the addition of 12 new sports to its athletics department for the 2021-2022 school year. These will join the ten existing sports to become a robust program for more than 400 student-athletes. Leading the way is the return of Division II football, for the first time since1980.

Through the collaborative efforts of QLabs; Bluestone Health Association, Inc.; and Bluefield State College, COVID-19 testing for BSC students and employees is being provided free-of-charge today in the Ned Shott Gym. Before starting fall semester face-to-face classes, BSC students and employees must provide evidence that they’ve tested negative for COVID-19 through the results of the on-campus testing on August 10 or through a COVID-19 negative test conducted on or after August 5, 2020.

Bluefield State’s fall sports have been postponed until further notice, a casualty of the ongoing toll taken by the COVID-19 virus. There will be no games, matches, meets or tournament play through the end of the calendar year for Volleyball, Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s tennis and Men’s Golf.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has mandated COVID-19 testing for all students, faculty and staff at West Virginia colleges and universities, prior to the beginning of fall semester classes (BSC fall classes begin on Thursday, August 13, 2020). The Bluefield State College Class of 2020 Radiologic Technology graduates have earned a 100% first time passage rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ Certification exam. The program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

International students at US higher education institutions that are planning to offer only online/remote learning during the 2020-21 academic year are encouraged to apply immediately for admission to Bluefield State College (BSC). “Over 60 percent of the courses we are offering this fall will be delivered face-to-face, while maintaining social distancing and taking all safety precautions,” stated BSC Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Ted. Nearly 300 Bluefield State College graduates will be awarded degrees during two ceremonies, June 12 and June 13, at Mitchell Stadium.

An esteemed scientific journal has published a biomedical research article developed and written by Bluefield State College students and a BSC faculty member.  The article in PLOS ONE, a peer-reviewed open access publication, involved the collaborative biomedical research efforts of seven current and former Bluefield State College students.
